Haik Kocharian is a filmmaker and photographer. Born in Armenia, Haik Kocharian grew up in a family of prominent theater actors. After high school, he studied theater directing at the Armenian Theater Academy. In 1993, Haik Kocharian moved to New York City to pursue his artistic career. He graduated from Brooklyn College in 2000 with a BA in Film and Photography.
In 2003, Haik Kocharian wrote and directed his first short film, CONTROL Z, which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the Marché du Film. Haik Kocharian’s second short as a writer and director, CHARLIE, won the Thirteen/WNET Reel 13 Shorts competition and was broadcast on Channel 13 in 2007.
In 2008, Haik Kocharian wrote his first feature-length film, ANNETTE AND HER. An American-French co-production, the film is currently in post-production.
An established fine art photographer, Haik Kocharian has exhibited widely, including solo shows at New York's Robin Rice Gallery, Galerie Mourlot, Village Quill Writer’s Space, SohoPhoto Gallery, the Appel Gallery in Sacramento, and most recently, 92Y Tribeca in September of 2009. His images can be found in private and corporate collections worldwide including Bloomingdale's and Ralph Lauren Paris. Haik Kocharian's new solo exhibition, a collaboration with the African Services Committee, will open at the James Cohan Gallery on May 17, 2010.
Haik Kocharian is currently in a late development stage on his second feature film as a writer and director, FOREST WITH PARKING, a gripping psychological drama.
