Synopsis
Victor, a New Yorker in his mid-thirties, is asphyxiating. A struggling poet, Victor feels trapped. Trapped by his girlfriend Mary who is six months pregnant. Trapped in his fear of becoming a parent. Trapped in a deeply conflicted relationship with his father-in-law, "Dad," who has begun pressuring him to find a stable and well-paying job. Victor feels trapped by the frenetic pace of life in New York City -- and ultimately trapped within himself.
Life for Victor and Mary has become an unbearable trudge through vast big box mega-stores, endless floors of model kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms and nurseries in anticipation of their impending move into a new home. Meanwhile, the couple’s cramped Chinatown apartment is in a state of disarray, a jumble of misplaced furniture, piles of bills, CDs, clothing, trash, cartons and box cutters.
Mary spends sleepless nights crying, haunted by unexplained, nagging apprehensions. She is overcome with a sense of dread that something dark and terrifying lies ahead. And tensions with Dad continue to simmer, ready to spin out of control.
Victor is desperate to find a way out, an escape.
A random, unexpected encounter with death offers Victor the perfect opportunity. But of course there is no escape, and Victor will have to pay the price.
